number of knee injuries in sports

Increasing number of injuries to athletes

There has been an uprise in the number of knee related injuries in sports over the past 3 years and the biggest question that everyone is asking is “why?”. Many orthopedic specialists believe that intense year round training, increased specializaton in a single (year round) sport along with playing on less forgiving artifical turf fields are to blame for the increase of these injuries. Artificial turf fields have been a major topic of discussion over

the past few years. there have been many conversations to get rid of artificial grass (turf) fields in sports as the have led to a 67% increase of ACL related injuries in the NFL. in the 2025 NFL season, big name athletes like Nick Bosa, Tyreek Hill, and Malik Nabers have already sustained season-ending ACL tears that will affect them and the teams they play for. The reason why turf fields are less sought after as grass fields is that turf fields are essentially just artificial grass laid over concrete. this makes the athletes joints take a higher amount of energy absorption while making a cut or a jump.

With the increase in the number of knee related injuries in sports, it has widely opened a new demand for knee braces and knee sleeves to help athletes that have a history with knee injuries and knee instability. The question now with all of the inflow of new consumers in the the market for a new knee brace is “which brand do I choose?”.

A company who has taken an initiative to solve the issue…

Newly founded knee brace company Shock Wear believes that it has creacked the code in midigating knee related injuries in sports. Founder Jake Rumsey who was once a High School & College athlete suffered two torn ACL’s and Meniscus’s during his time playing football as a defensive end. Jake had tried other leading brands like Don Joy and McDavid while playing but felt as if they didn’t meet his needs that he wanted out of a knee brace. Jake had suffered both of his knee injuries on turf fields and established an idea that there needs to be “car like” shock absorbers in knee braces. This will help athletes absorb the energy that the turf fields don’t. Shock Wear aims to minimize the amount of knee ligament injuries that occur in sports with patented shock absorbing technology that is implemented into the knee brace.

Shock Wear believes that it’s shock absorbers on each side of the brace help reduce the amount of energy that the knee takes when playing sports. Along with a lightweight carbon fiber frame that is comfortable to wear and light weight so the athlete barely notices that its there. Shock Wear aims to be the official knee brace sponsor of the NFL, MLS, and NCAA in its first five years of product life to establish and secure a strong brand awareness and reputation. In year one Shock Wear aims to manufacture and sell 18,000 units at a retail price of $1,400 they aim to collect a gross profit of $16,200,000.
